CONQUEST OF PARADISE

They kept on walking and walking, covered in ashes but restless. They passed through cities, uninterested, strangely enough because at any other time they would have robbed and destroyed them. But not now, now they had a mission and nothing in the world would tempt them away from it.

They were marching towards… the conquest of paradise!

They have been following their lord, fighting, winning, killing and destroying for a long, long time now. They conquered so many countries and foreign lands, defeated so many armies. But there has been peace and stillness for so long since then, no wars, no battles, nothing at all. No enemies, no armies drawing near, they have defeated them all, enjoyed their hard and bloody victories, lauded and praised them. But when there was nothing left to fight, nothing left to win, nothing left to sing and to be glad of, they became painfully aware of what they have become, warless soldiers, defeated and torpid warriors…without a cause. The greatest victory of the famous army was now its greatest defeat. They were trapped in between joy and boredom, euphoria and fear. What else could they possibly do, instead of sleeping?

But their lord finally found a solution! He found something to fight and to defeat, something worthy of their titanic powers. Let’s fight the sleep. Let’s defeat it! It would be what they called a “life or death” issue. Let’s march towards Morpheus land. Sleep means enormous skies, infinite happiness! Sleep means paradise! Let’s conquer the paradise!

Yeas, this will be their cause, their ideal, their life, their reason to breathe from now on.
The conquest of paradise would mean to bring the sleep to knees.

And so they departed of. They traveled for months and years without resting. The news of them fighting the sleep was spread in every single corner of the world. People wanted to see and to know the ones that were fighting the sleep for so long time were.
